About Ataba Fencing Club
From Cairo, Egypt to Hartland, Wisconsin
Ataba Fencing Club (pronounced ÀH-taba) is a prestigious Wisconsin fencing club founded by Coach Abbas Fadel in 1996. The club takes its name from an area in the Egyptian city of Cairo called “Ataba Square,” where the renowned Egyptian National Fencing Club still stands. Coach Abbas trained daily at the Egyptian National Club when he was part of the Egyptian National Epee Team.
The name Ataba, which means “first step” in Arabic, expresses values that are cultivated at the club. Here, young fencers are prepared to undertake a step-by-step journey both on and off the strip toward a life of fair play and positive energy. Adult fencers who come through the door understand that the first step to obtaining good results, both in the sport and in life, is to have an open mind and a positive attitude.
The first step that is taught at Ataba Fencing Club is a dynamic and constructive approach to life that harmoniously involves the physical and psychological parts of each fencer, promoting all potentials.

Ataba Club Today
Ataba Fencing Club has grown exponentially since its early days and now trains in a beautiful dedicated 16,000 square foot fencing facility in Hartland, Wisconsin.
The spacious building contains 12 competition-grade fencing strips with up-to-date fencing scoring machines, an armory area where equipment can be maintained, and a wide selection of fencing equipment and apparel for sale. There is also plenty of room for friends and family to gather during fencing practices and competitions.
Ataba has roughly 135 active members, and open practices draw fencers of various experience levels. Here, former Olympians train alongside current collegiate and high school fencers, as well as those of all ages who are new to the sport. Coach Abbas also offers private fencing lessons to help athletes build their skills on the strip.
